An Aloha Minute

Greetings to District 5730 Rotarians. I was overwhelmed by the great response of Rotarians at the Luau themed Installation in Plainview on June 28 in Plainview. We counted about 75 in attendance.

PDG JB Roberts led the Installation Oath for my term as Governor and the Assistant Governors. I count JB as a dear friend and mentor. I have been called to his office many times to receive a fresh word of advice or to share a precious memory from his many years of service.

Assistant Governor and new District Trainer Leslie Gattis was the master of ceremonies and kept the action going. PDG Dan Linebarger made his last act as governor by passing the District Governor Club Banner to me with a surprise tucked inside. I’ll let the photos show the fun.

Our theme this year, as we work together, is Rotary Connects the World. I have been teaching Rotarians for years to focus on making new connections in the Rotary World. As you look at the coming events this year, be aware that every event started with a connection in the Rotary world.

Just this past week, PDG Charles Starnes was asked to consider a Friendship Exchange to the Agra area of India during the week of national immunizations in January 2020. This is just in the early stages of planning. This came from a connection Charles made as Governor.

On June 27, I was honored to induct the Officers and Board members of 4 clubs in a combined event at South Plains College in Levelland. The Brownfield, Littlefield, Levelland Breakfast, and Levelland Noon clubs were all in attendance. I was amazed to see the members fellowshipping together and having fun. I do believe that they started making plans for service together and to have more joint meetings.

Watch out Rotarians, when you start making connections you start making plans for actions and service.

I will have updates as I start visiting clubs on July 9.

Aloha!
