On  Wednesday, October 12, 2016 , at the City Council meeting, Mayor Jerry Morales presented a World Polio Day proclamation to Dan Linebarger, District 5730 Governor Nominee. In accepting the proclamation, Dan explained to those in attendance that Rotary International has met the $200 million requirement of the Gates Foundation $355 million challenge to eradicate polio worldwide. In 1985, approximately 500,000 children were stricken with polio. Year to date worldwide for 2016, only 29 cases have been reported.
